ESET Announces Release of the Beta version of ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4 for Mac OS X and Linux. Argument of the publisher: "These systems are known to be vectors of threats for computers running Windows in a heterogeneous network shared."

ESET believes that until now the threats focused on the vulnerabilities of operating systems. New threats are now tackling the flaws present in the cross-platform applications. A flaw in them may help identify the operating system and thus propagate the malware appropriate including Mac OS X or Linux.

ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4 for Mac and ESET NOD32 Antivirus for Linux are designed to detect threats designed for multiple platforms. The software uses heuristic technology advanced analysis against emerging threats and generic signatures for reliable detection of mutations of known threats.

Remove the "checked by ESET" notification tags

click Start → All Programs → ESET → ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus ->Press the F5 key --> In the Advanced setup tree, click Antivirus and antispyware → Email client protection.
In the Alerts and notifications section, set your personal preferences for incoming and outgoing email --> Click OK to confirm the settings.

ESSv4 run slowly

When using utorrent and downloading a torrent or two while seeding two or more at the same time, i notice a huge slow down in computer performance, particularly system response i.e. opening applications, minimizing/maximizing windows .etc (Network speed is unaffected)

I've changed the settings in Protocol Filtering to "Applications marked as internet browsers and email clients" and ticked only my browser in Web access protection-->HTTP, HTTPS-->Web browsers, but the problem still persists.

However if i disable the Web access protection completely i do not experience a slow down in performance. This only happens when using utorrent. If im running StrongDC or Limewire and downloading/uploading multiple files at the same time, performance is unaffected.

I have an old machine which consists of an AMD Athlon 3000+ CPU, 1Gb DDR RAM, 200Gb sata HDD, winxp pro sp3 with all updates.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

SmartSecurity v4 with Windows 7

I did a clean install of windows 7 proffesional and installed ESET on my system, i tryed out the 64bit but had alot of driver problems so i formated agian and changed to 32bit, i had SmartSecurity to run perfect on the 64bit.

anyway i changed to 32bit and is runing with PC Tools Spyware doctor, and installed smartsecurity, and now i get a HUGE performance dumb. my computer becomes so slow that a amiga would be faster, and after about 4hours of waiting to get to uninstall program and i uninstall smartsecurity it becomes lightning fast as usual.

I believe Microsoft Windows 7 initially performs an indexing of files on local hard drives when installed. If so, this could explain why you noticed a slowdown. If that is the case, system performance should normalize after this disk-intensive operation has finished.

Help with NOD32 Anti Virus

I've set its schedule to update virus definition everyday at 3:00 (am) and then start scanning, but i need it to turn my pc off after completion of scanning, is there any option for auto shutdown in NOD32 4?

There's no charge after 3:00 (am) so i do scheduling for almost all my big downloads also i don't want do deal with that probably low speed of my pc while scan time so i need it to do it while I'm sleep but i need my graphic card too!! i've lost 3 GPUs in 2 yrs!!! (maybe b-cuz i rarely shut my pc down)

No , NOD 32 can't shut down the PC , But There are lots of Softwares that can do that for you . like " Auto Poweron & Shutdown "
you can schedule it turn off the PC , but here is the Problem , How can it know if NOD's update and scanning is finished or not ?!!

EDIT 2 : poor GPUs :D you really should use this program , I use it for the same reason , it power on the PC at 3 a.m , start " Mass Downloader " and Mass downloader downloads what I need , and after it ,that program shuts down my computer at 8 a.m ;-)

I recently downloaded nod32 but I can't get it to start up when I turn on the computer. all help appreciated. How do I get Nod32 antivirus to startup when computer does?

ESET Remote administrator console

I have V3.1.11 ERA and 340 client, where the majority of customers using NOD32 version 2.7. How can I make in order to update V2.7 and V4 together. Placing a tick on "Create update mirror for NOD32 version 2 products" NOD32 v4 update the NOD32 v2.7 can not find the update?
And what is going on when you first switch 2222 and 2223 ports hangs network?

Make sure that you have \nod32v2 entered onto the tail of the update server (2221). It should work then. Also, the client (2222) and console (2223) ports should not be switched.

ESET eamon.sys BSOD

Every now and again, I get a BSOD on my PC and it says it is caused by eamon.sys which is part of my ESS v4 suite on my PC which is Windows XP.

How can I solve this as it is getting annoying - this is the second time this has happened?

I had set up crash dumping already before the BSOD's occurred for a different reason so I assume the recent BSOD crash dump is also there.

Nod32 firewall module released

A new firewall module for ESET Smart Security has been released.
It contains the following changes:

In the user interface, a new section named Vista/Windows 7 Services under Setup → Personal Firewall → IDS and Advanced Options is now available. In this section, the following new options are available:

•Add IPv6 addresses from Local network to the Trusted Zone (fe80::/64)

How To Creating new rules

When installing a new application which accesses the network, or if there was a modification to an existing connection (remote side, port number, etc.), a new rule must be created.

To add a new rule, click on the New button in the Zone and rule setup window. Clicking on this button opens a new dialog window which allows the specification of a new rule. The upper part of the window contains three tabs: General, Local side and Remote side.

A good example of adding a new rule is allowing your Internet browser to access the network. The following must be provided in this case:

On the General tab, enable outgoing communication via the TCP & UDP protocol
Add the process representing your browser application (for Internet Explorer it is iexplore.exe) on the Local tab
On the Remote tab, enable port number 80 if you wish to allow standard World Wide Web services only

What do you think of the new Eset 4?

Just wanted to know from the people who have used this new security suite, I currently have the 90 day trial of Norton IS 2009 running and I have seen the new Eset 4.0 released.

Is the new security suite better than norton now or kaspersky for example, i want something with a great firewall (not comodo or outpost), has esets firewall gone better?

In my mind, Something that was always really important to me, (removal/cleaning abilities) has been drastically improved in the new version. It easily kills virtumonde now, I don't think its going to struggle with spyware/adware disinfection anymore, which is great news.
I would have liked them to add HIPS, but who knows, maybe with all the new implemented technologies it simply wont even need it, and continue to stay really light on resources.

How to schedule a scan task every 24 hours

To schedule a regular task, go to ESET Smart Security > Tools > Scheduler (applicable in the Advanced mode). Below, you can find a short guide on how to schedule a task – this task will create a scan of local disks every 24 hours.

To schedule a scan task:

* click Add in the main Scheduler screen
* select computer scan from the drop-down menu
* choose a name for the task and select Repeatedly
* choose to run the task every 24 hours
* select an action to perform if the scheduled task execution fails for some reason
* review the summary of the scheduled task and click Finish
* From the Targets drop-down menu, select Local drives
* click Finish to apply the task

Creating new tasks in Scheduler

To create a new task in Scheduler, click on the Add button or select Add from the context menu. Five types of scheduled tasks are available:

Run external application, Log maintenance, System startup file check, On-demand computer scan, Update

Since On-demand computer scan and Update are the most frequently used scheduled tasks, we will explain how to add a new update task.

From the Scheduled task drop-down menu displaying all available types of scheduled tasks, select Update. Proceed by clicking on Next and entering the name of the task into Task name. Select the frequency of the task. For this parameter, the following options are available: Once, Repeatedly, Daily, Weekly, and Event-triggered. Other parameters are also determined by the selected frequency. Next, you can define what action to take if the task cannot be performed or completed at the scheduled time. The following three options are available:

Wait until the next scheduled time, Run task as soon as possible, Run task immediately if the time since its last execution exceeds the specified interval (the interval can be defined after checking this option).

In the next step, a complete summary of information about the current scheduled task is displayed; the option Run task with specific parameters should be automatically enabled. Click on the Finish button. A dialog window will appear, allowing the user to choose profiles to be used for the scheduled task. Here the user can specify a primary and alternative profile, which is used in case the task cannot be completed using the primary profile. Confirm by clicking OK in the Update profiles window. The new scheduled task will be added to the list of currently scheduled tasks.

Scheduler is available if the Advanced mode in ESET Smart Security is activated. It can be found in the ESET Smart Security main menu as a submenu of the Tools section. Scheduler contains a summary list of all scheduled tasks and their configuration properties such as the predefined date, time, and scanning profile used.

Scheduler manages and launches scheduled tasks with predefined configuration and properties. The configuration and properties contain information such as the date and time as well as specified profiles to be used during execution of the task.

Personal Firewall Filtering modes

In ESET Smart Security, the personal firewall supports 5 modes of filtering traffic. The level of user interaction and behavior of the firewall changes based on the selected mode.

1.Automatic mode - This is the default mode and is suitable if you do not need to define rules. The automatic mode allows all outbound traffic for the given system and blocks all new connections initiated from the network side.
2.Automatic mode with exceptions (user-defined rules) - Enables you to add custom rules.
3.Interactive mode - Allows custom configurations. When a communication is detected without a corresponding rule, a dialog window displays with the option to allow or deny the communication. You also has the option to create a new rule to always allow or deny all similar communications in the future.
4.Policy-based mode - Blocks all connections that are not defined by a specific rule to allows them. This mode allows advanced users to define rules that permit only desired and secure connections.
5.Learning mode - Automatically creates and saves rules and is suitable for initial configuration of the Personal firewall. No user interaction is required, because ESET Smart Security saves rules according to predefined parameters. The Learning mode is not secure, and should only used until all rules for required communications have been created.

ESET SysInspector is an application that thoroughly inspects your computer and displays gathered data in a comprehensive way.
